“Lost in the Mountains –
A boho, shabby-chic wedding + camping experience at Black Bird Farms! “
When Carson + Nick explained their dream wedding venue it was somewhere that would offer an experience to their guests, be rustic and show off its natural beauty, and it had to have a tree for them to get married under…..enter Black Bird Farms. Black Bird Farms is a non-profit farm set after educating students about sustainability, agriculture and livestock! While they do a few weddings each year, Carson + Nick had plans to create the ultimate wedding the property had ever seen…enter Curated by Grace + White.
Private estate weddings can be extremely difficult to plan–they require a whole set of other details + logistics that need a lot of attention and care! I was so happy Carson + Nick hired our team at Curated by Grace + White to turn their vision into a reality. Carson + Nick envisioned most, if not all guests, staying on property. They wanted to camp in Yurts with their friends and hang out on the farm all weekend. We installed a handful of Yurts on the property in which guests camped all weekend!! They wanted to have a really fun + memorable wedding!! A few of things we did to achieve this included a bubble gun recessional at the ceremony. I remember seeing the guests’ faces when I handed them the bubble gun being in SHOCK to see them at the wedding, and even at the ceremony nonetheless!!
The property was HUGE. As the planner that day I walked 16 miles–so when we realized how big the property was Carson + Nick found the coolest bus to transfer guests from the parking lot to ceremony to cocktail hour and back to off property hotels! It was called the Gilly Bus and was retro-fitted with cool furniture and a complete 70s Woodstock vibe! It was so FUN! At cocktail hour, we included an Oyster Shucking station–the groom LOVES oysters and it was his one wish so we had to make it come true!! From there we headed to dinner, where one of the top wedding entertainment games I have ever seen took place!! We played a French wedding game that is a combination of musical chairs and a scavenger hunt. Carson + Nick picked a guest at each table and asked them to bring back common items. I, their wedding planner, was the Vanna White of the game and let me tell ya!! Having 12 wedding guests run at you at full speed is quite exhilarating!! Each round the last person back loses and must return to their table.
During the final round, Carson + Nick put a twist on it and determined the last item to be Nick’s Mom, the two contestants were running around trying to find her but she actually stepped out to the restroom!! Everyone applauded when she finally appeared and burst out in laughter. The guests enjoyed a beautiful candle-lit dinner under the mountain stars. The farm tables and chairs looked stunning and it was a sight I’ll never forget! Following dinner, we headed to the party barn! A favorite memory of mine is standing on an Orchard ladder (there are pics on yelp to prove it!) to hang Carson’ beloved Disco Ball. We didn’t think it was possible but somehow our team at Curated by Grace + White managed to get it done!! Carson + Nick were so surprised and so happy to dance the night away with their guests!! At the end of the night, I stood watching Carson + Nick enjoying themselves in a complete trance of happiness. It made every step of those 16 miles more than worth it. XOXO, Mary
